Okuma rods update. We're currently awaiting our very first Okuma rod order. Okuma will ship rods to us on October 12th, and we expect to have them in hand that week, and the rods will ship to you as soon as possible after that.
If you ordered a Ready-to-Rig System, we will contact you directly with shipping timing. Details and timing will be updated as we know them.
The Okuma Makaira LBS Setup
Okuma built the Makaira LBS line for one job: fighting large sharks from the sand. Coastal Worldwide helped design it. Dylan Wier and Blaine Kenny spent years telling Okuma what breaks on a beach and what a reel has to do when a fish runs 400 yards in the dark, and the Makaira SEa LBS reels and the LBS Custom Shark Rods came out of that work.
We are not a catalog reseller. We fish this gear on guided trips at Pensacola Beach, Navarre, Perdido Key, Gulf Shores, and Fort Morgan, and we sell what we run.
The reels use a 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame with forged sideplates, 17-4 stainless helical-cut gears, a Carbonite Dual Force drag, and a two-speed gearbox. Every size in the series carries a hammerhead etched into the sideplate. The rods use a 24-ton carbon and E-glass blank with Okuma's Ultimate Matrix Reinforcement in the high-stress sections.

Okuma Makaira LBS Questions
What is the Okuma Makaira LBS?
The Makaira LBS is Okuma's land-based shark edition of the Makaira two-speed lever-drag platform. Okuma built it for anglers fighting large sharks from a beach, jetty, or pier rather than from a boat. Coastal Worldwide helped design it.
Is the Makaira LBS a two-speed reel?
Yes. Every Makaira LBS is a two-speed lever-drag reel. The 80 and 80W run 3.1:1 in high gear and 1.2:1 in low. The 130 runs 2.2:1 in high and 1.2:1 in low.
How much drag does a Makaira LBS put out?
Every size will do 100 pounds of drag or more when it is set correctly. On our own trips we set 35 pounds at strike and about 75 pounds at full, measured on a crane scale at home before the reel ever hits the sand.
Which Makaira LBS size should I buy?
Size follows the fish you expect and how far your bait goes out. Larger sizes carry more line for long kayak deployments: about 850 yards on the 80, about 1,200 on the 80W, and about 1,500 on the 130, all 200 lb braid under a 250 lb mono top shot. Call us and describe your beach and we will tell you which one we would hand you.
What rod pairs with a Makaira LBS reel?
The Okuma LBS Custom Shark Rods were built alongside the reel platform. We sell them as a combo because that is how we fish them.
Do you spool the reel before it ships?
Ask us. We spool reels for our own trips and we can do yours.
Why buy from Coastal Worldwide instead of a catalog retailer?
We helped design this gear and we fish it every trip. When you call with a question about drag settings or leader pairing, you reach guides who run these reels on the sand, not a call center.
